Johann obtained his Bachelor of Accounting Honours degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 2011. He completed his articles at MGI Bass Gordon in 2014 where he stayed on as an Audit Supervisor. He was promoted to an Audit Manager in 2015 and to Audit Partner in 2019.
Johann has gained valuable experience during his various roles at MGI Bass Gordon on his journey to becoming a Partner. He is passionate about Auditing and seeing businesses grow from strength to strength. His portfolio of clients spans across a wide range of industries, including retail, manufacturing, investment holding, and wholesale trade.
Johann and his wife enjoy going for short runs and spending time on the beach. He is a sport enthusiast who enjoys watching a wide range of sporting activities. He also plays tennis and squash in his spare time.
David joined MGI Bass Gordon in September 2005 after being with Ernst & Young for 11 years. David obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from UNISA in 1994, the year he commenced his traineeship at Ernst & Young. He qualified in 1995, and completed his traineeship in 1997. David progressed through the management ranks of Ernst & Young where he was responsible for managing the work of primarily small to medium owner managed businesses.
David is responsible for providing accounting, auditing and taxation services to a wide range of clients. He heads up the audit and company secretarial divisions. He is a member of the risk committee, and is the quality control and ethics partner responsible for ensuring compliance with all the requirements of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
David is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is registered with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
Stuart was schooled in Cape Town, whereafter he attended the University of Cape Town to study Business Science Finance. After qualifying and obtaining his PGDA, he completed his articles at one of the Big Four audit firms where he specialised in financial services entities.
After completion of his articles in 1994 he served as financial manager for a manufacturing business and then a retail entity. In 1999 he returned to the profession and joined Gross Hendler & Frank at which time he obtained an Honour’s degree in Taxation in 2000 and was admitted as a partner in 2002. The firm later merged with MGI Bass Gordon in 2010.
Stuart specialises in auditing and heads up the firm’s corporate finance division and has been involved in many mergers and acquisitions (including some significant B-BBEE transactions).
Stuart is married and has 2 young boys. When he is not at work or spending time with his family, you can find him mountain biking on Table Mountain or riding over Chapmans Peak.
He is a member of the South African Institute for Chartered Accountants and is registered with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
Abraham obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town in 1999 and thereafter completed his Bachelor of Honours in Accounting at the University of South Africa.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 2003 and progressed through the ranks to become an audit manager. After a stint in Risk Management and Internal Control services at two listed corporates, he re-joined the practice in February 2008, becoming a partner a year later.
Abraham heads up the auditing and assurance division and is also the Quality Control and Ethics partner, tasked with ensuring compliance with all professional requirements as regulated by the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
He provides auditing, accounting, taxation and consulting services to primarily entrepreneurial owner-managed businesses and is a member of the firm’s risk and technical committees.
Abraham is the proud father of two young children and in his spare time he enjoys the outdoors and is an avid motorcyclist.
He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is registered with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors as a Registered Auditor.
Barry joined MGI Bass Gordon in 1982, after he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town and became a partner in 1988. Barry provides a wide range of services to his clients including accounting, tax, management consulting, auditing, estate planning and financial services.
In addition, he has played an important part in Jewish communal affairs by having been the treasurer of the Claremont Hebrew Congregation, the treasurer of the Union of Orthodox Synagogues (Cape Council), treasurer of the Constantia Hebrew Congregation and the Chairman of Nechama.
Barry is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is registered with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
Alan obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (PGDA) degree from the University of Cape Town in 2001 and completed his articles at KPMG Cape Town in 2004. Alan spent over 11 years at this Big Four audit firm, where he gained invaluable experience across a broad spectrum of industry sectors including JSE-listed Property and Retail companies, manufacturing concerns and a host of privately held family businesses.
Alan joined MGI Bass Gordon in February 2013 and was promoted to Partner in March 2016. Alan has a relationship first approach and is passionate about seeing businesses and business owners maximise their true potential by exploring value-add initiatives and opportunities.
Alan is married with 3 young children and is a sport and outdoor enthusiast. He is an avid runner with permanent numbers in the Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans Ultra as well as a top 10 finish in the Puffer trail run. He is also a keen surfer and when not spending quality time with his family or out running, you will find him searching the peninsula for the perfect wave.

Howard obtained his Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Cape Town in 1978. He joined Gross Hendler & Frank in 1979 as an article clerk and became a partner in 1984. This firm subsequently merged with MGI Bass Gordon in 2010. He provides a wide range of services to his clients including accounting, tax and auditing.
He was actively involved in Badminton and played the sport for 30 years before he retired. He was a treasurer of the Western Province Badminton Association for 20 years and is a life member. He was also a member of the South African Maccabi Badminton side in 1981. In his spare time, he focuses on running marathons, having run the Comrades Marathon 7 times and the Two Oceans 33 times.
Howard is a member of South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is registered with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
Susan joined MGI Bass Gordon in 2003 after completing her articles and a year of post articles at BDO Pretoria. Susan then went on to complete her Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Certificate in Theory of Accounting in 2004. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 2008 and was admitted as a partner in March 2010.
Susan’s client services include audits, independent reviews and compilations. She also assists clients with the preparation and review of their monthly management accounts and accounting processes. She oversees the Caseware programme used in office and assists clients with Pastel queries where needed. In addition, Susan is involved in the firm’s technical, training and trainee recruiting portfolios and is a member of the risk committee.
Her hobbies include gardening and home maintenance. Her best time spent is with her partner and 3 Scottish Terriers. Susan is also actively involved in the Catholic Women’s League, Cape Town in her personal capacity.
