Barry joined Bass Gordon Willis in 1982 to start his articles of clerkship after he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town. He became a partner in 1988, and provides a wide range of services to his clients including accounting, tax, management consulting, auditing and financial services.

Barry is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and has played a part in the communal affairs by having been the treasurer of the Claremont Hebrew Congregation, the treasurer of the Union of Orthodox Synagogues (Cape Council), treasurer of the Constantia Hebrew Congregation and an executive member of Nechama.
